Here is a reminder about the forthcoming Year 5 / Trillions class assembly which will take place at 09:15 on Wednesday 24th April 2013 in the Tennyson Building hall.
Parents and carers of all Year 5 pupils are welcome to attend to hear about the things that the class are currently up to, and to stay around afterwards for a drink and a biscuit.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible here next week.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine!

The Quad Garden
We have now planted some poppy, Sweet William and sunflower seeds in the classroom, which will hopefully germinate in the next few days. We have also been donated 80 bulbs of various varieties which we can plant directly into the garden.
The Trillions have put together some imaginative designs for the large raised bed...

The Quad Garden...
Now start thinking about how your 'persuasive' writing could help to populate the garden. It'll look bleak for a few weeks whilst we grow seedlings and source mature plants and cuttings. We will need to make sure that we keep on top of any weeds that grow back.
It's going to be great!
Here are some photographs of the garden after we'd finished...

Commenting on our Blogs
We are getting nearly 100 different people a week looking at our blogs, with people from 20 countries interested in our school. How amazing!
2) You are now ready to post a comment. Please type your message into the comment box. Any inappropriate messages will not be published. Please follow the schools ICT code of conduct.
3) Click on Select Profile, then click on Name/URL
4) At this point you can put your name. We ask for initials to identify children at the school so Daniel Murphy becomes DM. If you are a visitor to our site please use an appropriate name.
5) When you are ready to post, click on Publish!
6) Well done! You have published a comment! I wonder which class can get the most comments before Easter? There will be a whole class prize for the class with the most comments.

The Quad Garden - homework task.
As we discussed this afternoon, Mrs. Sian has very kindly agreed that the Quad Garden be 'adopted' by the Trillions. The first tasks are to clear out plants and debris that we do not need before deciding how we will improve the space.
Your homework task this week is to research (including checking the meanings of some of the words and technical terms) appropriate plants for the garden. You will need to consider...
1) Is the plant annual or perennial?
2) What colours and shapes are the flowers and foliage?
3) How much space does it need?
4) How tall will it grow?
5) What kind of climate does it like?
6) What ground conditions does it prefer?
7) Will it need to be supported?
8) Is it safe (to people and to animals)?
9) Will it be attractive to beneficial insects?
10) Does it need any special care?
11) How do we propagate it?
12) Is it likely to grow out of control?
13) How much do the seeds/seedlings/bulbs/cuttings cost?
14) How easy are they to get hold of?
To inspire you, here are some pictures of the garden as it is...
It can only get better!
What other things could we include to make the garden a more pleasant place to be? Could we include artwork or sculptures? Murals? Different surface colours and textures? How could we attract wildlife such as birds and insects?
I am looking forward to seeing your ideas on Friday! How you present your work is up to you - it could be a poster, collage, word-processed document, or whatever you want.

A great start to the second half of the Spring Term
We've made a really positive start to the second Spring Half term. It's great to have you all back again!
I hope you have enjoyed exploring drawing using Picasso's Cubist paintings as an inspiration - it was certainly entertaining seeing you look at each others faces on Monday afternoon...
I know that some parents have asked for additional work to do at home - look out for links on the Blog to websites that will help you learn outside of school.
Back to The Silver Sword - the children are staying with a German farmer trying to avoid the bergomaster, who has been tasked with returning all refugees (especially Poles) back to their home countries - will Jan, Bronia, Edek and Ruth escape detection?
Class Dojo continues to reward good behaviour and positive attitudes to learning - I am looking forward to giving chocolate to more children this term.
It's a short sprint to Easter - let's make the most of the time we have together!
Mr. Gamage.
